The Telegraph | Hotel Review: Collegio alla Querce, Auberge
Florence’s latest five-star opening offers a stay with one foot in the city and the other steeped in rural bliss – a mere 15-minute drive from the Duomo. An intriguing scholastic past, 83 luxurious bedrooms and an outdoor pool with panoramic views put this hotel among the city’s best (and most expensive).
This enormous property dates back to the 16th century and was originally a farmhouse, later becoming an elite Catholic boarding school. After a painstaking renovation process, it opened this spring as part of the American Auberge Resorts collection. The design leans into a modern Tuscan chic aesthetic while embracing this history. The Gamella restaurant occupies the vaulted ex-refectory, the handsome Bertelli Bar was once the headmaster’s study (it’s now hung with portraits of ex-pupils) and glass cases display academic memorabilia.
