As darkness cloaks the land below, marvel at the stars above from The Lodge at Primland's fully-equipped observatory. Taking exploring the Blue Ridge Mountains to a whole new level, Primland’s altitude and the unusual clarity of the night sky mean that you can study the stars, planets, nebulae, and other celestial objects without the dulling effects of ambient light. With Celestron CGE Pro 1400 and CPC 800 telescopes, enjoy extraordinary glimpses of the heavens and our solar system year round.

Grand Siècle Stargazing

Linger on the Lodge lawn with our astronomy team in anticipation of the Summer Solstice for an intimate star party, celebrating and exploring the night sky surrounded by the mountains. Continue the journey to the Observatory to catch the first-quarter moon rising, while savoring a glass of Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle, an homage to the Sun King.

Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing

Experience a rare “cosmic double header” as a breathtaking total solar eclipse unfolds in the late afternoon and evening, perfect for relaxed viewing at your own pace. Then, as night falls, join our astronomers outdoors for an unforgettable stargazing experience during the peak of the Perseid meteor shower, where up to 100 shooting stars per hour may light up the sky. With a new moon providing ideal dark-sky conditions, August 12–13 promises an extraordinary celestial show, weather permitting.
