A Legacy of the Land
Protecting the Wild, Empowering People
Auberge Safari stands at the intersection of travel and conservation. Every journey with us supports the preservation of Tanzania’s wilderness and the wellbeing of neighboring communities. We partner with two visionary conservation organizations, the Friedkin Conservation Fund and the Chem Chem Foundation, to restore landscapes, protect wildlife, and empower local communities.
Friedkin Conservation Fund | A Key Force in Tanzanian Conservation & Community Empowerment
The Friedkin Conservation Fund (FCF) manages three ecologically significant wilderness areas, which together form the Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area. This landscape serves as a critical buffer zone for the Greater Serengeti and Ngorongoro ecosystems, spanning approximately 2,000 km² (800 square miles) and representing around 8% of this biologically rich region. FCF’s work plays a vital role in safeguarding the Great Migration — their calving season unfolding amid the vast short grass plains within the Greater Mwiba Protected Wildlife Area. By working hand in hand with neighboring communities, FCF makes long-term investments in education, school and health infrastructure, while creating employment opportunities. When local families directly benefit from wildlife conservation, it creates a powerful incentive to protect it, resulting in a more secure and sustainable future for both people and wildlife.

Chem Chem Association | Guardians of the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor
At the heart of Chem Chem Association’s mission lies the protection of the Kwakuchinja Wildlife Corridor, a vital lifeline connecting the ecosystems of Tarangire and Lake Manyara National Parks. Declared abandoned in 2009, this critical migratory pathway has been transformed through sustained conservation efforts into a thriving ecosystem. Today, it not only supports the movement and survival of iconic wildlife, from elephants to lions, but has also strengthened the resilience of the environment and neighboring communities. Chem Chem Association works in close collaboration with local villages, its community initiatives span improved access to schooling, conservation education, and the strengthening of local health and social infrastructure. CCA also supports economic empowerment through skills development and small enterprise support. By directly linking wildlife protection to better livelihoods, the corridor stands as a clear example of conservation and community development working hand in hand.
